My Birthing Story

Image
You know when you start a race or a marathon and feel great, then during the last 6 miles, when you only have a 10k left, your body starts to remind you that it currently hates you... Well that is how my pregnancy was.  The first 8 months were honestly a breeze! I was fortunately enough not to have any morning sickness or real side effects except not being able to see my toes at the end.  However, the last month was tough.  Baby girl was measuring small for her age so I was told I needed to stop working out and increase my protein intake.  Trust me, that is easier said than done.  It's like my racing plan went perfectly to plan right up until the end when everything starts to fall apart. Then just when you don't think you can do it anymore,  you see the finish line. And just like that adrenaline really starts to pump through your muscles and you find yourself somehow sprinting across the finish line, hands held strongly in the air.  It is time t...

What To Expect When You Aren't Expecting Anymore: Postpartum must haves.

You know, everyone tells you about "What to expect when you're expecting" - heck there is a whole book written for it! You get no more insight than that!  I have been through my fair share of post-surgery recoveries to know that you usually receive a break down of expectations, goals, and "milestones" per-say to let you know where you are in your recovery journey.  So why wasn't I given ANY insight to my birthing recov...

I gave birth during COVID-19, and I LOVED it!

Is it possible to find a news channel today that isn't talking about the Corona Virus? Sure, just as possible as it is to see a real unicorn running the Boston Marathon.  When the Corona Virus first hit the news, I was 8 months pregnant.  I wasn't too worried as cases were only found in China at the time.  Even when the first cases were being reported in New York, I was not concerned.  After all, I live in Southern California, over 3,000 miles away. Then the first cases began to surface not only in California, but in the city I worked in.  Again, was I nervous? Not at all. I was (and still am) a healthy 20-something year old with no underlying medical conditions. Well, except for being pregnant which I personally do not consider a 'medical condition'.  As more and more new channels began to talk solely about COVID-19, I went about my daily routine.  Work in the morning, gym in the evening, weekend hikes, and the occasional visit to my OBGYN. ...
